Thanks to the voices of Leslie Martin, Regan Flor, David Kidd and Shaun Brown. Also thanks to the fabulous piano playing of Catherine “The Ranga” Lynagh and to the engineering brilliance of Geoff McGahan.
“Two of Australia’s leading creative artists, Brisbane-based composer and conductor Sean O’Boyle and film and television writer, actor and director Ian McFadyen, were commissioned by Opera Queensland to create the work for Prep to Year 7 audiences.
Space Encounterstells the story of two astronauts, their journey to an unknown planet and their encounter there with a lone alien.
At the conclusion of the performance students participate in a 10-minute question and answer session with the artists.
The production offers young audiences an introduction to opera and theatrical storytelling through music and voice.
As a teaching tool, Space Encounters allows students to explore opera as narrative.
Issues raised in the work deal with identity, self-image, isolation and relationships.”
